Biography of  Pastor Michael A. Smith

Pastor Michael A. Smith is the last of four children born to Mr. & Mrs. Clarence W. Smith. He has the ministerial philosophy of helping people, by the grace of God, to develop meaningful and empowering relationships with themselves, others and more so with Jesus Christ.  For over two decades he has been in ministry, and with the indispensable aid of the Holy Spirit, been instrumental in leading and baptizing thousands of precious souls to a saving relationship of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was officially ordained as a minister of the gospel in January 1985.

Pastor Smith holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Hon. Business Administration) and a Bachelor of Science Degree (Psychology & Social Studies) from the University of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, Canada; and a Master of Divinity Degree from Andrews University Theological Seminar in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Presently, he is pursuing a Doctor of Ministry Degree at Andrews University.

During his many years of ministry, Pastor Smith has served as a Colporteur (Literature Evangelist), District Pastor/Evangelist and Departmental Director. In fact, his departmental posts have included Director for Church Ministries, Stewardship, Family Ministries, Public Affairs & Religious Liberty, Community Services, Personal Ministries and Ministerial. He has also served as one of the Area Coordinators/Field Secretaries for the Bahamas Conference and through the years of ministry was a member of its various boards and executive committees.

In addition to church work, Pastor Smith has been employed in the Business, Hotel/Hospitality Industry, and worked in the Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Field.

Pastor Smith has ministered in Bermuda, Canada, USA, Cayman Islands Mission/Conference (1983 – 1986), the Bahamas Conference (1986 – 2006) and throughout the West Indies.  He served as pastor in a number of churches in the Bahamas Conference, inclusive of the three largest congregations. From out of his ministry he has co-laboured with members to build and renovate churches; start the radio ministry “Family Focus”; train lay preachers and bible workers; enrich marriages and families through marriage/family/ finance seminars.  

In the mid-1980’s Pastor Smith had the enjoyable honour of serving in the Grand Bahama circuit of churches and also as the second Coordinator of the Northern Region of Seventh-day Adventists (now North Bahamas Mission of Seventh-day Adventists). In mid-February 2006, he was called to the now North Bahamas Mission to serve once again as the pastor of the Freeport Seventh-day Adventist Church and subsequently he was asked to further function as the Stewardship, Family Ministries and Education Director. At the mid-year committee meeting (June 2006) of the West Indies Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists he was elected to serve also as the Executive Secretary for the North Bahamas Mission.

Pastor Smith has been married to the former Lynn C. Antonio of Nassau, Bahamas. Mrs. Smith is a fourth generation Seventh-day Adventist; educator, former principal of Bahamas Academy, Grand Bahama Academy and Cayman Islands (former Edmer) Academy. She is also a former Women’s Ministries Director of the Bahamas Conference, administrative assistant, and is an accomplished singer/musician. Together they have three beautiful children, namely, Nashanda, Shanae and Dawn.

Some of Pastor Smith’s interests include Evangelism, Preaching & Biblical Teaching/Study, Reading, Computer “dabbling”, Multi-media & PowerPoint Presentations, Travelling, Exercising, and Studying Human Behaviour.
