The Board of Directors of The Grand Bahama
Port Authority Limited (GBPA) yesterday announced the appointment of Edmund
Rahming as vice president of development, research and analysis. In announcing
the appointment, Hannes Babak, chairman of PGL, and Felix Stubbs, chairman of
GBPA, noted that the board is delighted to have Rahming assume this role.
“We believe that Mr. Rahming will add tremendous value to the
executive team, in its quest for sustained development of our island,” a press
statement quoted them as saying. Rahming, who is originally from Nassau, noted
that Grand Bahama “has a way of growing on you and I join the ranks of the
thousands of other folks from Nassau that have made Grand Bahama their home.”
Rahming holds a Master of Business Administration from the
University of Florida and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Southern
Adventist University. With over 12 years as an experienced accountant, he is
well versed in all areas, but is most passionate about forensic accounting.
Rahming began his career as an auditor with Deloitte’s Financial Accounting
Services in New Providence and
also practiced in the firm’s New York office in the U.S. as well as the office
in the Cayman Islands.
Rahming has also spent an extensive amount of time sharpening
his craft with firms in the United Kingdom. “I have a passion for the
development of the island and for our young people here,” Rahming said. “I’m
hopeful we can continue to roll aside much of the unnecessary red-tape and allow
business development to happen at a faster pace to ensure our young people don’t
move away for employment.”
Rahming joined the Port Group family as financial controller
for The Grand Bahama Development Company in 2004 and was later
promoted to commercial manager. He is a member of the American Institute of
Certified Public Accountants, The Georgia Society of
Certified Public Accountants, the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants and
the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
Rahming enjoys playing basketball and fly-fishing and serves
as treasurer of his church. He is married to Devincia Rahming (nee Lebrin)
