Discovering New Horizons
Amidst Our Pursuit of Excellence
Under the theme: "Discovering New Horizons Amidst Our Pursuit of
Excellence", Grand Bahama Academy (GBA), on the island of Grand Bahama in the
northern Bahamas, held its first and historic Grade 12 Graduation. Pastor Derek
Bignall, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the West Indies,
charged the historic 12 graduates at the Baccalaureate Service on June 13 that
“excellence has to do with being yourself, who you are! It's not pitting oneself
against another person.” He told the students in attendance during the church
service at the Freeport Seventh-day Adventist Church "you have something unique
to offer this world that no one else can offer". He encouraged them to emulate
the life of the Biblical character, Daniel. He was a person of prayer,
principle, perseverance who practiced excellence.
Then on Sunday, June 14,
the Principal, Mrs. Desiree Rolle-Forbes, presented a superb video report,
highlighting the progress and accomplishments of GBA over the past year. The
Hon. Zhivago Laing,
Acknowledging that the world is in a global
recession, Mr. Laing gave the graduates tips on how they can “get their feet in
the door”. He further admonished them to take the job they can get until they
can get the job they want. We congratulate all the graduates and further give
kudos to Kidan Brown (Valedictorian) and Cameron Palmer (Salutatorian). We also
salute the parents and guardians of these twelve leaders of this 21st
Century for the confidence they have placed in Grand Bahama Academy, its
principal, Mrs. Desiree Rolle-Forbes, and its administration, teachers and
staff. The educators of this “top” institution continue to be committed to the
process of education and redemption, as well as to nation building.
Grand Bahama Academy is truly demonstrating that it must be more and more
confirmed as the school of choice for Seventh-day Adventists, in particular, and
Grand Bahamians in general.
