South Abaco Youth Week of Prayer

By: Jacqueline V. Collie (Assistant Communication Secretary, South Abaco Church)

The South Abaco Youth held their Week of Prayer last week February 9 – 16th 2008. Beginning and ending with a bang!

They learnt how Jesus became human in their first reading “Glory to Glory” given by our very own Youth Mission Director Pastor Ricardo Bain.

They met faithfully each night of that week except for Thursday 14th February– so as not to weary the saints – we won’t touch on the possibility that most of our youth’s parents (even some of our youth themselves) had plans that evening.  However, each youth family was given the reading for Thursday to do it in their homes at which ever opportune moment they saw best.

But they came back in full vigor Friday evening for a true evening of love – Taking part in an Agape Feast and Foot Washing service after such an impacting reading on the culture of foot-washing entitled “Scandalous!” written by Beth Holford and read by one of their AY assistants Sis. Leidamae Collie.  After the reading the young people did their Foot Washing exercise.  Then they prayed in twos and exchanged greetings, flowers and Christian “love notes”.

Then ending on what was to be the beginning of a now rejuvenated spiritual walk with Christ.  Their AY leader, Sis. Elizabeth Collie, gave the final reading on the ultimate price – “Calvary” written by Pastor Gifford Rahamie (Dept. of Theological Studies, Newbold College),  a most powerful reading on The Man of Calvary, The Cross of Calvary and Sinners of Calvary.  A reading that truly left us all with something to ponder on - not just our Youth.   A reading that reminded us of why we are Seventh-day Adventist Christians and why we serve our God.  A reading that got us to reminisce on the most melancholy fact of all – that we are made in sin and shaped in iniquity, and therefore undisputedly deserve to die, but! – There is a but!  Jesus paid the ultimate price to set every human free.
