The Grand Bahama Health Services Public Hospitals Authority Nurses
Recognition Committee honoured retired Adventist nurse, Mrs. Lenora
Pratt, Nursing Officer 1, at the Paula Neymour's Noble Tea Party on
Sunday, April 27, 2008. This special ceremony, under the patronage of Mrs. Paula Neymour, the "Florence Nightingale" of
Grand Bahama nursing, is a major public recognition occasion. This event honoured Nurse Pratt for her "selfless and
unwavering service" to the noble profession of nursing for
which she devoted some 40 years of her life as an educator, administrator and
nurse par excellence.
Nurse Pratt's formal nursing education was done at The Royal
College of Nursing, London, England, where she obtained Diplomas in Nursing
Education and Nursing Administration. She began her nursing career in 1960 as a
registered nurse at the Princess Margaret Hospital, in Nassau, Bahamas. She
progressed to the Nursing Officer II level and moved to the Rand Memorial
Hospital, in Freeport, Grand Bahama in February 1978. While at the Rand Memorial
she advanced to Nursing Officer I as well as Administrative Officer. Nurse
Lenora Pratt retired July 20, 2000. Her husband, Charles W. Pratt, is also a
former Nursing Officer I with the Ministry of Health, Bahamas.
The Pratts are the proud parents of five children - Clayton,
Ron and Charles "Chuck" Pratt, Jr., Kimberley Dorway and Azure Dee Russell and
the proud grandparents of twelve grandchildren.
This public servant is a long servicing member of the
Freeport Seventh-day Adventist Church where she served as Sabbath School
Superintendent, Head Deaconess, Adventist Youth Leader, Sabbath School Teacher,
Choir Member and a Member of the Dorcas Society.
