New Principal Appointed At Grand Bahama Academy
On Sunday, June 12, 2005, the North
Bahamas Mission Executive Committee convened a special meeting to
complete the process of selecting a new principal for Grand Bahama Academy.
After interviewing the two excellent candidates who applied for the position
and presenting the matter to the Lord in prayer, the committee voted to
invite Desiree Rolle-Forbes, currently Vice-principal of St. Georges High
School, to assume the leadership of our institution – Grand Bahama Academy.
Mrs. Forbes will succeed Haydn Hanna, who served successfully as principal
of the Academy for 10 years, overseeing its formative years of development
and eventual expansion to the sprawling site where it now resides on
Grasmere and Toscombe Drive. As principal, Mr. Hanna leaves a rich legacy of
dedicated educational leadership which contributed to one of if not the most
significant growth periods in the history of Grand Bahama Academy.
Mrs. Desiree Rolle-Forbes is an experienced educator having taught at
Primary, Junior High and High School levels within the Adventist and Public
School systems. She also served as principal of the Governor’s Harbour and
Preston Albury High Schools for 5 years before coming to Grand Bahama where
she served as Senior Mistress of the Eight Mile Rock High School before
assuming the position of Vice-principal at St. Georges High School.
The new principal-elect will take up the challenge of leadership of the
Academy on the eve of its 25th Anniversary, when as an institution it faces
some significant challenges on the way forward. However, we believe that
with new leadership come new ideas, new approaches, new energy and new
expectations to meet such challenges. As we face the future, we are
confident that Grand Bahama Academy will continue to grow to its next level
of development. It will grow because it’s the school of God’s planting;
founded on the divine principle that the work of education and redemption
are one.
If there is ever a time Grand Bahama Academy needs our support as a Church
as members, it is now. This is our school and it is morally and spiritually
incumbent upon us to do all that we can to make sure that it succeeds. I
urge every parent in our various congregations to plan now to enroll your
child at our school for the new School Year.
Dr. Keith D. Albury, Education Director
Ground-breaking Of The North Abaco
Seventh-day Adventist Church
On Sunday, June 12, 2005, officers and departmental directors of the North
Bahamas Mission traveled to the beautiful island of Abaco to join the
brethren of that district in celebration as they broke ground on a 3-acre
beautiful hilltop property for the construction of a sanctuary for the North
Abaco Church.
The impressive service attended by members, local dignitaries and
well-wishers from all over Abaco underscored the tremendous strides that
have been made, over the past several years, in the development of the work
in North Abaco. From the very small beginnings of one or two members
conducting bible studies, and branch Sabbath Schools in their homes, the
church now has a membership of approximately 36 individuals who are
committed to advancing further out into the deep for the Lord.
Dr. Keith D. Albury, president of the Mission,
taking his cue from Haggai 1:1-10, encouraged the brethren to step out in
faith as they build knowing that God has promised He will be with them and
provide the resources they need to complete the project.
Later on in the program, monetary gifts were presented by the Mission and
the other churches in Abaco. Assurances were given that the other churches
in Grand Bahama would send their gifts as well. Congratulations are extended
to Pastor Leonardo Rahming, Elder Rick Sands and the entire team at North
Abaco for planning an excellent program.
