Pastor E. Bryan Tinker Pastor Michael A.
Smith On Wednesday, June 21, 2006, new officers for the North Bahamas Mission of Seventh-day Adventists were installed at the Freeport Seventh-day Adventist Church. Installed were Pastor E. Bryan Tinker as President, and Pastor Michael A. Smith as Executive Secretary. These new officers were appointed by the West Indies Union Executive Committee at its Mid-year Executive Meeting on June 7 of this year. Giving the keynote address to a packed church was the President of West Indies Union, Dr. Patrick Allen whose main text was taken from Joshua 1:1-5. He admonished the new leaders and the entire membership to carry the work forward, as was the commission given three years ago to the late Dr. Keith D. Albury and his fellow administrators. He further implored all Seventh-day Adventist members present to hold up the hands of the new leaders, pray for them, and be united as they all work together to spread the gospel in this territory. In his charge to the new president, Dr. Allen reminded Pastor Tinker that he is Christ’s ambassador and the Union’s representative to the North Bahamas Mission. He further implored the new president to be a shepherd to God’s flock, serving as an overseer, not because he must, but because he is willing, as God wants him to be. In his response to the charge, Pastor Tinker affirmed that “by the grace of God I will bear true allegiance to the faith our Lord bequeathed to us. I will lead this Mission with integrity and compassion to accomplish its mission, the Lord Being my Helper”. In his charge to the new executive secretary, Dr. Allen asked Pastor Smith if he was willing to commit himself to the leading of the Holy Spirit and in so doing administer the Mission in harmony with the policies of the church. Pastor Smith replied that he was willing to do so, with God as his helper. Dr. Wendell R. McMillan, Field Secretary for the West Indies Union, gave a very moving prayer of consecration for the newly installed officers, their spouses and the Mission. The Mission President rose to the occasion as he gave his response, giving an overview of the goals achieved during the first half of this year, and pledging his support to see the Mission grow. As he asked his fellow administers to join him on the rostrum, he reiterated that he was pleased to have them stand by his side, united in purpose and mission. To emphasize this point, the new president ended by quoting the words of the song: “You’re my brother, you’re my sister, just take me by the hand, together we will work until He comes. There’s no foe that can defeat us, if we’re walking side by side; together we will work, we will stand!” In addition to the President of West Indies Union, Dr. Patrick Allen, in attendance at this historic and special service were the Executive Secretary and Treasurer of the Union, Pastor Derek Bignall and Dr. Herman Ming respectively, Dr. John Carey, representing the Bahamas Conference, and special guests and friends from the community.
